The following citation was presented
by last year's Person of the Year, Terri Jones of Eileen's Cafe
The person I'm speaking
of I met at Eileen's Café.
This person moved to Valley City around
1977. With his family playing practical jokes on people and enjoying
life always seemed to be a high priority. One of his first jobs
was landscaping and helping with maintenance at a nearby church.
He graduated from Buckeye Local Schools
in the top 10 of the class and went on to Baldwin Wallace College,
graduating with honors in criminal justice. On May 17, 1992 he was
hired as a Medina County Sheriff Deputy and in July, 1995 he became
a Sergeant. In April 2001 he became a liaison with the courts. In
2007 he received an award as Regional Court Officer of the Year,
Region C, from the Bailiff and Court Officer's Association.
He mentors young people who may not
have the family life he did. You will generally find him volunteering
his time at Emmanuel United Church of Christ or St Martin's Catholic
Church in their kitchens. [Webmaster note; Don had not a clue
he was to receive this award. He was at St Martin's only to help
with the dinner.] He spend time this past summer helping with
the construction of the Bicentennial log cabin. He spends more of
his time being a volunteer fireman. He has headed up the kitchen
during the Street Fair for the past couple of years. He even plows
the sidewalks in the downtown area.
He is very committed to Valley City.
He is one of the most passionate people I have met when it comes
to his beliefs.
This is Donald Arthur Boone
