The VCCG Directors, close friends, and the Buckeye Guidance Office surprised our two 2024 scholarship award winners at their homes. The video was live-streamed via Facebook to cover the entire event, allowing viewing by more friends. Each student will have their name added to a standing plaque in the Buckeye Academic Showcase, a yard sign, a personal memento, and a $2000 scholarship check. The formal award presentation will take place on May 9, 2024.
This Year’s Winners
Teaghan Knierim
Teaghan received the Barb & Rod Knight Citizenship Award for her impressive record of aptly demonstrating Citizenship skills and commitment. Buckeye involvements included several winning bands, art contests, and NHS. She was an honoree at the Medina County Leadership Ball. These passions continued outside of Buckeye, into the larger community with notable achievements via Girl Scouts, church summer camp, food banks and turning a neglected garden into a butterfly garden/refuge. Compassion showed her aiding an elderly lady, concerns over rescue horses and renovating a memorial bench.
She will enter Baldwin Wallace Ohio this fall to commence her career in computer software engineering.
Of note, 2024 marks the 51st consecutive year for this to be awarded.
Tyler Marcum
Tyler received the VCCG Trade School Citizenship Award. This scholarship recognizes and encourages that The Trades provide very worthwhile life skills and careers. Tyler is an accomplished student who clearly demonstrated his citizenship skills by being heavily involved in Buckeye FFA, encouraging young students towards positive behavior and acceptance, choir and the commentator for several sports programs. The wider community outside of Buckeye found him volunteering at church, summer camp, coaching T-Ball and missionary work. He is an intern at the City of Medina Road department learning the mechanics trade while simultaneously attending Cuyahoga Community College toward his goal of a career in Criminal Justice.
